Before updating from Wordpress 2.3.3 to Wordpress 2.5 I did a backup within my control panel (Interworx), and after that I followed the instructions per the update page on Wordpress.org.

What did dawn on me was that I didn’t disable my plugins before I went a head and updated the software, however this sweat was only momentarily as it the process went without any issues even so.

In any case, don’t hesitate to take the plunge – it is one great piece of kit this Wordpress. Except for the improved internal cache-handling, the backend is a real treat; fast and easy to use. The auto-update of your installed plugins is another nifty feature.

If this will be a success or not is too early to say, however I am wondering if surfers – especially the IT-savvy segment – are interested in becoming an integral part of IDG’s traffic-generation and ultimately ad-sales.

The other day I got a “No More Invites” invitation from a friend on Facebook. I found really funny, especially as the same person is sending me everything from “Vampires” invitations to “Annoy your friends” dittos.

But to be a bit more serious for a second; The above is one of the weaknesses of Facebook – it is just too cluttered with information and by opting out from certain feeds, you risk missing information that might be vital to your e-social life.

There is a buzz about “Facebook’s user numbers are dropping”, however I believe this to be highly exaggerated. The leveling out of visitors, users and overall traffic is just natural after a period of rapid growth. If this didn’t happen, it would be like saying that these MLM-schemes actually work for everyone.

The Swedish edition of IDG writes about PhD in search engine marketing Elias Kai in the town Kalmar of southern Sweden who named his son “Oliver Christian Google Kai”.

The father, Elias Kai, says that his wife had no problem with naming her son after the search engine, and Elias also got the question if he’ll name his next baby “Yahoo!”if it’s a boy or “Altavista” if it’s a girl, but as a self-proclaimed fan of Google, Elias says “no way” and that he’ll considerate names such as “Giggol, Gaggol eller Boogol” instead.

So, what does Google have to say about this? Well, Google’s European vice president Nikesh Arora held a presentation during London Ad Tech in September, and Elias Kai got to speak at the podium and tell the audience that he’ll name his son “Google”. The audience laughed and no-one thought that Elias actually was serious in naming his son Google, though he was.

Perhaps Elias Kai should’ve taken the 200 people strong audience’ reaction more serious and not name his son after a search engine?! I think so… Maybe his father thinks it’s cool to name his son after his favourite cult-object, but I doubt that the father considered the problems that his son will get in the future with such a name, everything from bullying in school to problems at misc. tasks of life – such as applying for a job, applying for a job etc.

I don’t want to paint it all black, but come on…

Google Kai has his own site at http://www.google-kai.com and of course his own blog at http://googlekai.blogspot.com

Though, regardless of anything else, no-one can deny that Google Kai is a cute baby boy, and I am sure that everyone who reads this post will wish him and his family all the luck in the world in his life!!!

I’m writing this post because I got invited to a forum online. Yes, it was a sex-forum where more or less mature boys (I don’t want to call any of them “men”, because this behaviour does not qualify them) post pictures of, mainly, girls – writing more or less derogatory remarks about these girls – calling these girls ” sluts”, “whores” etc.

The only thing these girl did wrong was to trust their boyfriends and allowing them to take erotic photos of them, and then either out of spite against the ex-girlfriend or because these guys have less technical knowledge than they themselves think, rendering their private photos shared all across the web via peer to peer networks like Direct Connect, Kazaa etc.

What makes me wonder is if these boys guys think about what they are doing, would they want their own sister being laid out on the web like this, would they like an angry ex-boyfriend of their mother posting their moms’ naked body or more online without her knowledge / acceptance? I think not…

There are sites like “Hot or Not” where you can post your own or other’s photographs to get rated from a scale from 1 to 10, and these sites are pretty innocent, but then you have the sexforums where full frontal nudity and erotic situations gets exploited and profited from.

I won’t post the links to these forums, as I don’t want to promote this behaviour nor boost the forum-owners monetary gain – but I just hope that the girls being subjected to this are able to get past this trauma, because they deserve better…

And to the boys doing this: Please think about what you are doing!! Think about the fact that the girl you are posting is a human being, made out of flesh and blood – the girls you are posting pictures of and calling a whore has feelings and what you see as a past-time may hurt the girl you are posting for the rest of her life!!!

Think twice…
